Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California Futurity Rules
Sec. 1 Futurity Stakes of the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California are open to all purebred litters bred by regular members, subject to the qualifications outlined herein.
Sec. 2 Bitch nominations shall be made by notifying the Futurity Chairperson, in writing, giving the name of the owner of the dam.
Sec. 3 Stud dog nominations shall be made by notifying the Futurity Chairperson, in writing, giving the name of the owner of the stud dog.
Sec. 4 Bitch/Stud dog nominations in connection with Futurity must be nominated exactly as ownership is recorded with The American Kennel Club. All owners/lessors must be members of the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California. A leased bitch/stud dog, the A.K.C. lease agreement must accompany the nomination.
Sec. 5 Bitch/Stud dog nominations must be received by the Futurity Chairperson before the puppies are 56 days old and must be accompanied by a $25.00 nomination fee. If nomination is sent via U.S. mail, it must be postmarked prior to the date of 56 days old.
Sec. 6 Litters may be nominated by notifying the Futurity Chairperson in writing, giving the sire, dam, number and sex, color and date of whelping of puppies.
Sec. 7 There will be no refunds of nominated litters after the nominations have been sent to the Futurity Chairperson.
Sec. 8 Late Bitch/Stud dog, litter nominations shall not be accepted.
Sec. 9 Individual puppies, from properly nominated litters, must be entered by notifying the Futurity Chairperson in writing on an A.K.C. entry blank form.
1) Individual puppy entries, from properly nominated and eligible litters, must be received by the Futurity Chairperson by specified date and accompanied by a $4.00 entry fee for each individual nominated puppy.
GUIDELINES FOR BREEDING FUTURITY NOMINATIONS
1) Qualifications for Sire, Dam, Stud Dog, and/or Brood Bitch
a) Prior to breeding, sires and dams under two (2) years of age shall be evaluated a being clear of hip and elbow dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), or any university housing a school of veterinary medicine or a Board Certified orthopedic veterinarian. After two (2) years of age, the stud dogs and brood bitches MUST be certified as being clear of hip and elbow dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).
b) Prior to breeding, sire and dam must be examined and found clear of PRA, CPRA, and other inherited eye anomalies by a qualified veterinary ophthalmologist using an ophthalmoscope and slit lamp. This examination must be within one year of and prior to breeding.
2) Mis-marks – It is suggested that a stud dog or brood bitch be free from mis-marks as defined in the breed standard.
3) Wholesale Selling of Puppies – The LRCSC requires that puppies shall not be sold wholesale to retail outlets for resale. To enforce this requirement, the LRCSC will immediately declare ineligible for futurity nomination, any dog which, or whose littermates, have been found to have been sold in violation of this requirement, and no fees shall be refunded. The breeder of this litter shall be barred from making any further nominations.
FUTURITY COMPETITION
1) Location and date of Futurity conformation competition to be determined by the LRCSC Board of Directors. Competition to be held yearly.
2) Competition for dogs and bitches to be in the following classes: a. Six (6) months old and under nine (9) months. b. Nine (9) months old and under twelve (12) months. c. Twelve (12) months old and under fifteen (15) months. d. Fifteen (15) months old and under eighteen (18) months. e. Best in Futurity and Best Opposite Sex (class winners only)
All classes divided by sex. No eligible dogs shall be disqualified if the maximum age limit is exceeded because of a change in the date of the show.
3) Prize money for the Futurity Stakes shall be distributed as follows: a. Funds for each bitch/stud dog litter nomination will be divided equally between dog and bitch classes. b. Ten percent (10%) to defray the expenses and twenty percent (20%) for the Best in Futurity competition will be deducted from the prize money for each class. c. Remaining prize money for each class will be divided as follows: 1. Classes having four (4) or more competing; 1st – 40%, 2nd – 30% , 3rd – 20%, 4th – 10% 2. Classes having three (3) competing; 1st – 50%, 2nd – 30%, 3rd – 20% 3. Classes having two (2) competing; 1st – 60%, 2nd – 40% 4. Classes having one competing; 1st – 100% d. The 20 percent (20%) deducted for Best in Futurity competition will be divided as follows:
Best in Futurity – 60% Best of Opposite Sex – 40%
4) Dogs to compete in the Futurity Stakes must be at least six (6) months old and not more than eighteen (18) months old. Dogs too young for the current Futurity will be shown to next year.
5) Professional handlers may exhibit only dogs owned by them or members of their immediate family, or of which they or their immediate family are breeder of record.
6) All disputes shall be resolved by the Futurity Chairperson, subject to appeal and review by the LRCSC Board of Directors. Approved 2/13/1999 Click here for a printer-friendly
